You’re probably wondering, what the heck am I doing here? Most likely you already know me. We’re friends on social media and you clicked a link. Maybe someone that knows me posted a link because they really liked what they read. Thanks for being interested enough to check this out.
Now you’re thinking… why should I care what you have to say? That’s a great question! There’s already enough people out there sharing their opinions about everything from food to politics. I don’t want to be one of those. There’s also a bunch of touchy-feely people out there sending name it and claim it messages of personal wealth and prosperity if you just want it enough. Again, not me.
I’d rather just be real. That can get you in trouble sometimes. Some people might not want you being real if the stories or details include them. Especially if they haven’t always behaved the best or have some sense of shame or embarrassment over the part they played. Well, I won’t mention names. That’s going to have to be good enough.
So, who am I? I am currently a full time ministry director at a mega-church. I’m not a pastor, at least not by title. I’m okay with that. In fact, I actually prefer it. I have been in this line of work for over 14 years now. Before that, I served as a worship leader, young adult ministry leader, youth pastor, snow pusher, broom sweeper, event emcee… you name it, I’ve probably done it. But, I haven’t always worked in ministry. I spent the first half of my life working in corporate America. I wore a tie to work every day, carried a briefcase (ok, a laptop bag). I flew a lot for work. After 9/11, when commercial flying was such a pain, I even flew on the company jet. I’m sure I’ll have some stories about that at some point.
So, yeah, I’ve seen a ton. I’ve endured a ton of headache and heartache. And, I can honestly say I’m better for it. But, when I was in the thick of it, buried under the “right now” I couldn’t see how there was any hope of getting to the other side. I should also warn you that it wasn’t just one season of trial. No, in fact, there have been many trials I’ve faced. And, undoubtedly, there will be many more. And not all that I’m writing about will be about me or my experience directly. Some of what I have to share is about trials I’ve helped others face. Again, names and locations removed 🙂 .
I’m a husband, a friend, and a father to two adorable fur-babies. Another trial I’m sure will come up is the fact that we don’t have any human children. I love Sci-Fi, comedy, action adventure, cars, music, Star Wars, and Star Trek. I also have a disturbing inner sense of humor that I try to keep under submission, but it doesn’t always work. Don’t let this paragraph disqualify me from sharing from my experiences to help encourage you, to help you find strength in whatever wisdom I can offer, and to help you see that sometimes, it’s all about perspective.
